Beard or not to beard

I’m having ACDF next Tuesday and was wondering if I need to shave my beard or not? Can’t find any word on this anywhere so figured I’d ask here.

  • If you don't and it is needed they will do it for you in pre-op. I would think as long as the neck is clear they can drape over the chin and beard.

  • Dear mucram,

Welcome! I would suggest you shave beforehand, so you don't have to worry about it at the hospital. This way you can 100% focus on your recovery and can get to the more important things. Hope everything goes well and best of luck!

  • Sounds good, thanks y’all!

  • Sgt, just a FYI, most people who wear a beard ( I have a goatee) do NOT realize the bacteria that is contained with in one! ( only reason I know this useless trivia was a TV documentary) but personally, I’d shave to lessen the chance of infection!
