  • Hi Rob. Sorry for all you're going through. My understanding of hyperalgesia is that as your narcotic tolerance goes up, you need more, and you also perceive pain as higher. What might have been a "6" is now a "9." This makes chronic pain very difficult to treat. Using other modalities, like "the Blend" can be very helpful.

  • Hi rob may I ask after all this time the opoids still help with the pain?

I am.very worried about tolerance as I have just started using tramadol for sciatic pain.

    I do hope you improve

  • I hate to see all the issues you've been through. I hear a lot about healthcare providers claiming patients are suffering from Hyper analgesia, but the funny thing is that a clear scientific diagnosis for it doesn't exists. It's all "believed" to exist but cannot be proven. So, medicine has now begun relying on theory instead of listening to patients and treating what they describe. Welcome to the opioid hysteria that is gripping the Nation.

If you go back and look, literally, every year or so, the US has a "Crisis" IT MUST SOLVE! Before the opioid hysteria which is really a heroin and illicit drug issue, we had to panic about the Zika virus. A mosquito was going to kill us all. CDC was given hundreds of millions of dollars to beat the mosquito, but our weather beat it for us. Before Zika was West Nile Virus...same deal.

I would be a blithering idiot if I didn't recognize and say that we have an illicit drug problem in America. The medications chronic pain patients take do have side effects, but my guess is that many who get their meds from the pharmacy take them as directed to avoid the loss of one thing that can bring them relief.

When I had to come off Opana ER because they stopped making it, I felt like crap. That's even with still taking oxymorphone IR generic. At the end of the day, I still have to take medication or I will be done. My pain comes back when the medication starts to wear off. I do not believe this is hyperanalgesia causing my pain. I do believe it is because my facet joints are worn out above my fusion site along with a crap ton of arthritis and scar tissue. The average public, media and some healthcare providers need to slow down, take a breath and remember that not everyone takes street drugs. We should not be lumped into that category. Just to prove a point about this, lets take away everyone's Viagra or other ED medicine and say it's bad. Do you think the same politicians who are leading the charge to outlaw opioids would do the same about ED medicines. Probably not. My guess is because over half of them rely on it.

Rob, I think it is very brave of you to say what you did and could recognize that you were addicted. But the healthcare establishment should not punish you the rest of your life by withholding medication that could relieve your pain. To me, you are one of the honest people that are caught in the hysteria known as the "Opioid Crisis".

  • I assume the Blend you mention are the opiates and benzos together? Thats basically heroin without the fentanol.
LOL. No ... that’s not the blend. The blend is about implementing and utilizing all your options to alleviate your pain (people often forget about stretching, water therapy, heating pads, ice, etc).
